Sponsors Second Chance Champions are business partners in our community that see the value in supporting formerly incarcerated individuals.
Many people exit incarceration homeless with nothing but the clothing they are wearing. With a felony conviction history, finding employment, a home, recovering from addiction, building healthy relationships, and adhering to the requirements of their release can feel out of reach.
Second Chance Champions show up in many ways, including sponsorship for transitional housing, employment support, behavioral health programs, and more! Champions may hire individuals with conviction histories, volunteer their employee time, or use their unique platforms to advocate for second chances.
Our champions know that people shouldn’t be defined by their past – in collaboration with Sponsors, Second Chance Champions help envision a safer, more just, and fair community for all.
Tami wanted nothing more than to regain custody of her kids. She worked incredibly hard during the three and half months she spent living in Sponsors transitional housing. She took parenting classes, met with her case manager regularly, started taking classes at LCC and got a part time job.
She is proud to say that she now has full custody of her daughter and son! Tami is healthy, stable, and incredibly grateful to have had a safe, welcoming place and access to basic needs when she was released.
Lucas released from prison ready to begin anew. He was committed to continuing to recover from addiction, find a stable job and place to live.
With support from the Sponsors Reentry Resource Center staff, he was able to find employment within two weeks of releasing. Financial assistance helped Lucas obtain a birth certificate, get a bus pass, and purchase work specific boots he needed for his new job. Lucas has begun saving money for an apartment and feels hopeful for his future. He is committed to changing his life for the better!
