Do you want to be a part of supporting individuals as they work to transform their lives, help reimagine justice, and work to create a more safe and just community for everyone? Sponsors is actively seeking new people to join our Board of Directors!

The time is ripe for criminal justice reform, and Sponsors is partnering with a broad base of like-minded organizations to advance progressive reform.

Sponsors board and staff are committed to an inclusive, equitable, and multicultural work environment. We are stronger and more effective because of the diverse life experiences of our community. We strongly encourage applications from people who have lived experience with the criminal justice system; Black, Indigenous, Latinx people; people who are gender non-binary; and LGBTQ candidates.

The deadline to apply is March 1, 2022

Finalists will be interviewed by a committee of the Board and Staff. New Board Members will join a cohort of peers for a 3-year term beginning in June 2022. Board Members serve as volunteers, and there is no pay for the position.

Ideal Candidates – Why We Need You!

Our goal is for the Board of Directors to reflect the diversity of Sponsors’ program participants and the broader community. All Board Members must have a strong commitment to Sponsors’ mission to support people seeking second chances and creating a more just and fair society.

More specifically, we seek diverse perspectives and life experiences of people who are allies in our mission. We seek:
• Greater diversity of life experience by conviction history, race and ethnicity, age, gender identity, disability status, and geographical distribution in Oregon.
• Experience in public policy and LGBTQ advocacy, racial justice and inclusion, financial or business experience, and/or affordable housing development.
• Ability and willingness to be an advocate in the community and assist with fundraising.
• Individuals from the Pacific Northwest; board meetings are a hybrid of in-person and remote.

Who We Are

Sponsors is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals transform their lives by providing opportunities to people with conviction histories. We are a dynamic organization that has gained national recognition as a model program utilizing best practices in reentry services. We offer a broad range of services that people need to successfully reenter society, including housing, employment, counseling and mentoring. Our philosophy is based on the belief that people can and do change.

We see ourselves as allies, thought leaders and advocates for a fairer and more effective criminal justice system on behalf of justice involved individuals. We seek people with the skills, capacity and vision to help Sponsors achieve its broad mission.

Role of the Board of Directors

The Board helps Sponsors achieve its mission by providing effective oversight, guidance, support and advocacy.

Together we:
• Ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion is central to all we do
• Develop a shared, focused strategic vision and metrics for success
• Advocate for public policies to further social and criminal justice
• Advance Sponsors’ fundraising goals
• Build effective community partnerships with employers, property managers and criminal justice organizations
• Ensure financial health and legal compliance

Expectations of Board Members

• Attend all Board and Committee meetings, about 1 per month taking 3-6 hours per month on average.
• Be prepared and engaged, responsive to communications, and be open and honest.
• Volunteer your time and expertise.
• Be an ambassador for Sponsors in the community and your network.
• Participate in fundraising in whatever way you deem meaningful.
