Mark’s Season of Transformation

After more than three years of incarceration, Mark knew his transition back would be hard. But being accepted to Sponsors quieted some of his fears. He would have a safe place to sleep and the help he needed most.

“The transition was difficult,” Mark said. “But Sponsors gave me a softer landing than most people get.”

During his time at Sponsors, Mark met regularly with his case manager, Melissa. She helped him find long-term housing, plan his return to school at Lane Community College, and more. Melissa became Mark’s touchstone in navigating his next steps.

He took classes through Sponsors Reentry Resource Center, including one that focused on rebuilding his credit and managing money, two things he had struggled with previously.

Today, Mark’s life looks completely different from what it was when he went to prison.

He has his own apartment with a roommate. He is a full-time student at Lane Community College, and he’s earning straight A’s. Mark is also repairing relationships with his two daughters.

“I tell people it all started at Sponsors,” Mark said.

When people leave prison, the first few months out can determine the rest of their lives. With a home, support, and encouragement, people can and do change their lives. Your kind support made Mark’s powerful transformation possible!
