Director of Transitional Housing

Purpose of Position:

Support the mission of Sponsors assisting individuals from Lane County, released from Oregon state correctional facilities and the Lane County Jail, in making a successful re-entry into our community.  Sponsors is nationally recognized as a model utilizing best practices in re-entry services.

Reports to:

This position reports to the Executive Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises Transitional Housing Program Case Management team (case managers, lead case managers, program coordinators), and approved interns and volunteers.

Primary Objective:

The Director of Transitional Housing is responsible for the overall management and operations of case management and support services across the Transitional Housing Program and is an integral member of Sponsors’ management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and supervision for direct services staff in Sponsors’ Transitional Housing Programs.
  • Recruit, train and provide consistent leadership for all assigned staff.
  • Supervise and assist case managers with daily case management duties including intake, structured case management sessions, documentation of participant progress, transition plans for each participant, and monitoring participant compliance with program and parole requirements. 
  • Guide case managers to effectively and consistently address issues of non-compliance or community safety.
  • Coordinate with management staff to facilitate the ongoing training and professional development of case management and support staff across the Sponsors program.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled 1:1 meetings with all direct reports; conduct employee evaluations and enact progressive discipline as necessary for assigned staff.
  • Train and supervise approved volunteers and interns for the Program.
  • Manage operations of Sponsors’ Transitional Housing Programs.
  • Manage staff scheduling to ensure 24-hour coverage at both Transitional Housing campuses.
  • Ensure drug testing of participants is properly conducted, documented, and reported.
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager to promptly address issues pertaining to procurement of food and supplies, information technology, and facility maintenance/repairs.
  • Establish and oversee protocols pertaining to participant accounts, program compliance checks, inventory management, and property upkeep.
  • Regularly communicate with members of the public who call or drop in to learn about or obtain access to services. 
  • Represent the Case Management Team within Sponsors
  • Participate in regular agency-wide management team meetings and staffings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate case management meetings and other staff meetings.
  • Participate in periodic meetings and strategic planning sessions with the Board and management team.
  • Represent Sponsors in the community and working with other agencies.
  • Represent Sponsors at forums and community activities as assigned.
  • Coordinate and develop participant services in collaboration with appropriate partner agencies (e.g., Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Parole & Probation, Treatment Courts, on-site service providers, etc.)
  • Participate in inter-agency meetings and workgroups as needed.
  • Provide support to special development projects as assigned by the Executive Director (e.g., capital campaigns, committee assignments, etc.).
  • Oversee Participant Records and Program information tracking.
  • Provide training and guidance staff to effectively utilize a variety of web-based programs, and both paper and electronic records systems to maintain detailed and accurate participant records in an organized manner that maintains confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Provide oversight and coaching to ensure all participant data is entered into Sponsors’ web-supported database in a timely and accurate manner. Conduct regular audits to ensure staff are adhering to protocols and identify opportunities to streamline processes.
  • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of reports to partner agencies and Sponsors Finance Department.

  • Preferred experience in a social advocacy role

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or commensurate experience in a relevant human services work. (Master’s degree preferred.)
  • Experience supervising staff in case management or other direct service to support individuals from underserved communities.
  • Experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability, especially those involved in the criminal legal system.  

Work Environment:

This individual typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.  May encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.

Physical Demands: 

Walking upstairs, sitting or standing at a desk for prolonged periods of time. Noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office environment.
