Dear Sponsors Community,
I am a mother of two children, a son and a daughter. I have been clean from drugs for exactly 152 days. In this time, I have learned not to give up, even when things feel impossible.
Two years ago, I was in active addiction, my children were taken away from me, and I made a bad choice that led me to jail. Having your children ripped away is gut-wrenching. I wanted to give up. I went eight months without seeing my kids; that’s when I truly hit bottom.
After jail, I entered intensive outpatient treatment and got clean, and[MF3] then my Parole Officer helped me apply to Sponsors. I began looking for work. I would ace the interview, but then they would run a background check, and they’d tell me, “I’m sorry, we can’t hire a felon.” It was frustrating, but eventually I took a job in food service.
I love living at Sponsors. It keeps me accountable, it holds me to the promises I have made, and honestly, I need that.
Soon, my kids will be able to live here with me in Bothy Cottage! Weekend visits with my kids keep me going, and knowing they will be home and we will be a family again. I am grateful to be here, to have support in accountability, my sobriety, and time with my kids. You might not realize it, but when you care about us and help Sponsors, you are saving someone’s life.
Sincerely, Grace
